Jay has hands on knowledge of programs and procedures from his many years as a clerk-treasurer.  I have received invaluable advice that I wouldn’t have received from someone that has not worked in this field. Jay has excellent teaching qualities, being very patient, encouraging and instilled in me the confidence to move forward in my job. Some of the things he taught me include how to balance, transfer, what appropriation accounts to use, what taxes need to be paid, and where to go to get information/answers for questions I may have. Plus he is still available by phone or email anytime I need him.

I have called on Jay several times over the past three years to help me straighten out some issues with accounts, bank statements and many other issues. He not only corrects errors, but explains how to keep on track. I have been at the point of resigning, but after Jay came in to help me out, I finally got a good night’s sleep. I was appointed to my position in May of 2012, having not worked in this field for 20 years, I thought of a former colleague that had helped me back in 1993, Jay Southwood, the clerk from Shelburn. I needed some brushing up on my clerk-treasurer duties and on my computer system. I contacted Jay and he was very willing to come to my rescue and provide the help I needed. Jay’s expertise and knowledge in Keystone Accounting Systems, the budgeting process, Gateway System and the end of the year processes are exceptional. Something else I liked about Jay is that he doesn’t talk over my head and if I don’t understand something I’m not intimidated to the point of not asking the question.

Two years ago, I was struggling to prepare my annual report. It was the first time I attempted to do it on my own, which as it turned out was a disaster.  Although I had all of my books prepared and numbers ready to go, I was having difficulty getting the job done.  The Clerk in Knightsville told me about Jay in Shelburn. I gave him a call and explained my problem of trying to download the report. It was just a few days later he came to my office and was able to answer any questions I had and was able to help me with my report.  Long story short, if anyone would call me and need help of any kind like THIS CLERK DID, I would give them Jay’s number.  He is very knowledgeable with the report and gave me a few tips in other areas of my job.  It’s really nice to know that if you have a problem that someone is just a phone call away.

Jay was a tremendous help to me as he has great experience as a long time Clerk-Treasurer and Keystone Software user.  Jay helped me with an issue balancing bank statements due to an OCRA Grant and SRF loan through the Bank of New York.  I started the entry process myself but it was not correct.  Jay helped me delete the incorrect information and process all of the Bank of New York Statements entries the correct way.  When we needed more time to complete the process he made the time to come back to make sure all was entered correctly and balanced.  I appreciate his patience with me.
